Program / Project Description: Objective:
To parlay USTA 'Tennis Night in America' Youth Registration
at twelve (12) Los Angeles Dept. of Recreation & Park sites last March into a premier culminating junior tournament event in June.

Project Description:
1. Los Angeles Dept. of RAP serve as 'Umbrella' agency to oversee twelve (12) locations promoting USTA 'Tennis Night in America' in March.

2. Northridge East Neighborhood Council and Kiwanis Club of Northridge grant a $1,500.00 to LA Dept. of RAP for purpose of growing tennis as a team among all twelve (12) TNA sites.

3. Meetings held among all partners (listed above)+ 12 RAP sites and 3 elementary schools for planning culminating 'TNA Youth Registration' Junior Tennis Tournament event in JUNE, 2010.

4. Tournament flyers go out to all 3rd-6th grades at three elementary schools + 12 RAP sites + local YMCA

5. $1,500.00 awarded grant spent on printing, advertising, trophies, equipment, T-shirts, photography and stipence to Coaches teaching at Tennis Assemblies on playgrounds at three (3) elementary schools.

Results Achieved / Impact: Results:
1. Initial March 'TNA' at 12 sites engaged over 300 kids & grew LA Dept. of RAP Youth Registration in spring by 10%.

2. Culminating spring June Tennis Tournament at Northridge Recreation Center offered two events:
a. Junior Novice Round-Robin Tournament = 64 entries
b. QuickStart Tennis event (kids 6-10) = 32 entries

Lessons Learned / Words of Wisdom: I believe this is a great tribute of how USTA's effort in growing tennis parlays into giving communities the
incentive to pull their own resources together for the greater good of in this case, twelve RAP centers.

Collectively, support was granted not only by the USTA but also from local Kiwanis Club of Northridge and the Northridge East Neighborhood Council, providing a new tennis community coalition.
